Many people think of marketing as pushing products onto the market, and while marketing is indeed about selling, it’s also about communicating. In fact, successful marketing has nothing to do with pushing products, but everything to do with communicating a message.
According to the Bible, marketing is a means of sharing the good news of the gospel. For example, when Jesus sent out the twelve apostles, they proclaimed the good news of the Kingdom and healed the sick. This was a form of marketing, since the people who came to the apostles for healing also heard the gospel and were healed.
Marketing was central to Jesus’ ministry, and He often called upon people to share His message with others. He encouraged His disciples to continue His mission by proclaiming the gospel and making disciples of all nations. Many people are confused about marketing. Marketing is the act of promoting and selling goods and services in the marketplace. Marketing is the art of finding needs and wants, and offering goods and services to meet those needs and wants. Marketing is about creating solutions to problems and filling needs.
The Bible is full of interesting tidbits. From love poems to instructions on building a temple, the Bible is chock full of useful information. It's a great book to read, and if you have a background in business, marketing, or management, you can probably take some tips and tricks from the Bible.
1.Understanding the Biblical Principles of Marketing
Among the many disciplines, marketing is one of the most misunderstood. However, it’s a discipline that God has given us as Christians to use for the purpose of spreading the Gospel.Christians are often looked down upon by the world, and are often accused of being hypocritical. However, the Christian's understanding of business is not hypocritical, but rather it is grounded in Biblical principles. As Christians, we not only have the influence, but also the responsibility and opportunity to use our business to help those around us.
The marketing industry changes constantly, and there’s much to learn about how to reach your customers. That’s why it’s important to stay up-to-date on the latest marketing principles from the Bible. As technology advances and the methods of doing business change, marketing techniques do too. Recently there has been a sharp rise in digital marketing and social media marketing, but the basic principles of marketing remain the same.
The principles in the Bible have to do with how God deals with His creation. When God created the world, He did so with a view to taking care of all of the created beings. The Bible is clear that God created everything, and that all things belong to Him, including the resources of the Earth. So, when God was taking care of His creation, He did not just allow everything to naturally run its course without any intervention. God was actively involved in shepherding His creation.
2.Follow Jesus’s Marketing Example
Jesus was a master marketer. It was his understanding of the marketplace that enabled him to build such a following. He understood how to appeal to every demographic, from common folk to royalty. He understood how to use every kind of media, from billboards to telegrams, to communicate his message and identity. He understood how to make money, from his earliest days as a fisherman to his last days on earth.
Most people are repelled by marketing strategy. But Jesus, who eventually became the supreme example of marketing in the Gospels, was a master at it. He knew how to captivate an audience and motivate them to follow his teachings. He knew how to draw people into his kingdom. If we can learn to follow his example in the way he marketed himself, we can learn to effectively market our own businesses.
Jesus told them about the Kingdom of God in parables, and He illustrated His point using everyday experiences like sowing seeds in a garden or using a pearl as a pearl. Jesus used everyday experiences to teach the crowds about the Kingdom of God, and He emphasised that the Kingdom of God was not far from them and that they should live like they were in the middle. We are in a digital world, and most of us live in a world that is fueled by digital information. As Christians, we have to be intentional in how we market ourselves and our message.
3.Marketing Is Ministering
Some of my favourite sermons and messages at church are from preachers who incorporate modern-day marketing tactics. The pastors and church leaders I know who are great at marketing their churches are masterful at identifying what their congregants are looking for and using marketing principles to appeal to those needs.Marketing isn't about convincing people to buy something. Marketing is about ministering to people. It is sharing from your heart. It is showing people God's love. It is connecting people to Jesus.
For a growing business or a stagnant one, marketing is paramount to success. But a marketing strategy can’t just focus on selling products or services; the key to success is to effectively connect with customers on a personal level. This goes well beyond putting a pretty logo up on a brochure or website. Marketing—or ministering, as the Bible calls it—is about doing good, through communicating a message of genuine care and concern for customers.
Christians who preach and practice marketing are few, but abundant. Of course, God wants you to be successful in your endeavours. Christian marketers preach the Gospel through their marketing. They may market products that help with the physical and spiritual health of their customers. Or they may market a product that helps them to make better financial decisions.Because marketing is bringing people together, sharing important information, and giving hope. Marketing is sharing the Bible and what God has done for us.
Jesus and His early followers saw the ministry as a calling, and that meant service. Jesus didn't just preach and teach, but He also cared for others. He had compassion on the sick, and He healed the sick. He fed the hungry, and He comforted the hurting. He demanded justice, and He spoke truth to power. He was all about serving others, and He wanted his followers to do the same.
